Current trends in perpetual motion patents reveal a boom in free energy technology

Free Energy Quark Colliders will be for sale soon at Canadian Tire given the surge in perpetual motion patents filed worldwide! A brief overview of recent international patent applications confirms that Perpetual Motion (PM) technology continues to thrive and proliferate. Patent offices around the world are happily issuing more and more patents which they clearly identify as perpetual motion devices – that is non functional according to present understanding of physical laws of thermodynamics.
Searching for such PM patents historically was easy since patent officials usually classified them in the standard patent classifications for perpetual motion, indicated below. These classifications covered the usual species of perpetual motion developed since the time of Leonardo da Vinci – machines involving buoyancy and gravity, with some newer classifications to cover electricity and magnetism.

Conducting a patent search for a novel PM device consisted of reviewing older PM machine patents to see if they claimed the same kind of (non functional ) free energy generating mechanism. If not, the inventor raced off to the patent office to prosecute his application for a new (non functional) PM machine.
Unfortunately, life for patent searchers in the PM field is harder now for a variety of reasons:

Patent offices have not kept up with the patent classification for newer PM machines involving recent developments in quantum physics, string theory, black holes and subatomic particles.

Physics as a subject is now hot, so all kinds of prophetic patents are filed with mad claims for new energy sources (remember Cold Fusion?)

Inventors are reading more science fiction and pop science, and think they can clobber the future market in PM machines by patenting use as a free energy source for some newly discovered faster-than-light particle. Unfortunately, the life of a patent starts at the day of filing, so by the time there is an actual Higgs-boson free energy generator for the home sold at Walmart, the patent will be long expired. The fun times for people like Jerome Lemelson filing submarine patents are long gone.

Many evil stock-promoting fraudsters rip off gullible investors by waving patents at them as irrefutable evidence that patent examiners have verified that their claimed technology works. Nothing could be further from the truth. There are about 525 patents and patent applications on the books for cold fusion, as an example of a tech bubble that fooled thousands of experts.

I looked for evidence of technology hotbeds or incubators for revolutionary perpetual motion innovation. The only theme I found was a noticeable increase in filings from Asia – China, Korea, Japan and India mainly. This factoid would lend credence to the theory that western civilization in general is being buried by smarter, faster, cheaper technology from the east. United States PM patents account for about 22% of the 2011 numbers, while Canadians filing PM patents can be counted on one hand, yet another disgrace for Canadian innovation achievement.

Statistically world wide the numbers for PM patent filings have more than tripled in the last decade, from 276 published in 2001 to 670 in 2010 with the numbers so far for 2011 being about the same as 2010. I used the following International patent classifications for PM. Obviously the numbers could be much higher, given the subjective, capricious, disorganized, error-riddled, random and incompetently managed nature of patent data.

H02K53/00: Alleged dynamo-electric perpetua mobilia
F03G7/10: Alleged perpetua mobilia – recovering energy derived from swinging, rolling, pitching or like movements, e.g. from the vibrations of a machine
F03B17/04: Alleged perpetua mobilia – using hydrostatic thrust
